Donald Trump not welcome at the Met Gala – here’s why

Donald Trump was once a regular at the Met Gala and even proposed to Melania on the way to the event in 2004. However, he has not been welcome for years. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who leads the event, publicly stated in 2017 that Trump would “never be invited again” – a decision made early in his presidency that still stands today.

Although the Met Gala claims to avoid politics, its guest list suggests otherwise. This year, Trump, along with allies like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg, were absent.

The 2025 theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, highlighted Black designers and fashion’s role in challenging stereotypes – a theme some see as politically symbolic.
