President Donald Trump spoke to the media following the horrific tragedy, but his remarks sparked debate.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0reports<\/a>, a shooter opened fire at Florida State University on April 17, 2025, leaving two persons dead and roughly six others injured.<\/p>\n

Phoenix Ikner has been named as the alleged shooter. According to reports, the 20-year-old, who is the son of a police officer, carried out the attack with his mother\u2019s old service pistol.<\/p>\n

During a press conference at the White House, President Donald Trump addressed the school shooting. He said to the press,\u00a0\u201cThese things are terrible.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump reaffirmed his support for the Second Amendment in his remarks, stating that he is\u00a0\u201ca big advocate of the Second Amendment\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and that he has\u00a0\u201cprotected it\u201d \u201cfrom the beginning.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

As for the violent incident, Trump said,\u00a0\u201cThe gun doesn\u2019t do the shooting, the people do.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI will tell you that it\u2019s a shame I\u2019m just hearing about it now, I know the area very well, I know the school very well. And we\u2019ll have more to say about it later, we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0the POTUS said.<\/p>\n

When the press asked him to elaborate on what he means by \u2018see what happens,\u2019 he replied,\u00a0\u201cOnly in terms of what happens as far as legislation\u2019s concerned, this has been going on a long time.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, he did succinctly clarify that\u00a0\u201cI have an obligation to protect the Second Amendment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI ran on the Second Amendment \u2013 on many other things \u2013 and I will always protect the Second Amendment,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0the President stated.<\/p>\n

A lot of people were unhappy with Trump\u2019s response. One person\u00a0wrote<\/a>,\u00a0\u201dSorry about the dead people, but I love guns. Their ashes are not even cold yet. Completely disgraceful and unchristian.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
