Tom Hanks has riled up Donald Trump supporters after his MAGA-wearing \u2018Doug\u2019 character featured on the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live.On February 16, celebrities from far and wide flocked to New York to celebrate SNL\u2019s huge birthday mileston<\/p>\n
From Meryl Streep and Martin Short, to Jack Nicholson and Aubrey Plaza, plenty of A-listers attended to celebrate the sketch comedy turning 50.Hanks was also at the celebration. The actor appeared in one skit that has led to a bit of controversy among supporters of President Trump.<\/p>\n
The Forrest Gump actor donned a red \u2018Make America Great Again\u2019 cap as he played a man named Doug on a parody game show known as Black Jeopardy.<\/p>\n
During the skit, Kenan Thompson, the host of the parody show, made an efort to shake Doug\u2019s hand, but he initially refused.<\/p>\n
Doug eventually performed the greeting gesture, before saying: \u201cDon\u2019t like that, whoa, whoa, whoa. Maybe I\u2019ll start a show for you to come on and we\u2019ll call it White Jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many Trump supporters have taken to Twitter after the skit aired, and it\u2019s fair to say the vast majority are not impressed.<\/strong><\/h1>\n
One post said: \u201cTom Hanks went on SNL dressed like a slob mocking millions of Trump supporters \u2013 portraying them as dumb, racist, rednecks.<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep it up libs. You\u2019ll never win another election again.\u201d<\/p>\nThe skit has faced backlash (NBC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
While Link Lauren, a former advisor to Robert F. Kennedy Jr, wrote: \u201cTom Hanks just came out on SNL in a MAGA hat for a bit where he acted like he didn\u2019t want to shake a black man\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis show wonders why their ratings are in the gutter. Trump won the popular vote. This tired trope that MAGA is racist is disgusting. SNL is an unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites. The current Republican Party is a big tent coalition compromised of many former Democrats. Good riddance, SNL!\u201d<\/p>\n
A third Trump supporter penned: \u201cNo one in the audience laughs as Tom Hanks appears on SNL as a racist Trump supporter that refuses to shake hands with a black man,\u201d while another remarked: \u201cThis makes me mad.
