\nThe documentary captures raw moments leading up to the 1968 Comeback Special, aired on NBC on December 3, 1968. After seven years away from live performances, Elvis faced immense fear.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was interested in exploring his decision to perform live again,\u201d says director Jason Hehir. \u201c1968 was a turning point for Elvis. It made sense to dive deep.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elvis\u2019s frustration with Hollywood is clear. \u201cHollywood\u2019s image of me was wrong, and I knew it. I felt obligated to things I didn\u2019t believe in,\u201d he admits.<\/p>\n

Priscilla recalls watching him sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm in the 1967 film Double Trouble. \u201cThat to me is a crime,\u201d she says. \u201cIt made him a laughingstock. And he knew it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Career in Crisis
\nBy the mid-1960s, Elvis\u2019s film roles were repetitive and unfulfilling. He dreamed of being the next James Dean or Marlon Brando but felt trapped. \u201cHe sometimes became physically ill thinking about his film career,\u201d Hehir explains. \u201cHe was frustrated but wanted more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking the Stage Again
\nIn 1968, after years of mediocre films, Elvis returned to the stage. He faced uncertainty and fear. \u201cHe almost didn\u2019t leave his dressing room,\u201d Hehir says. \u201cBut once on stage, that\u2019s where he thrived \u2014 microphone in hand, in front of an audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nDuring the special, Elvis channeled Marlon Brando in a black leather outfit. Show producer Steve Binder spotted a photo of Elvis on a Harley, inspired by Brando\u2019s The Wild One. Costume designer Bill Belew created a custom leather look, combining silk shirts and scarves, and Elvis loved it.<\/p>\n

The leather jacket became iconic \u2014 a symbol of Elvis reclaiming his throne and showing the world he was back. AI colorization of old photos highlights just how bold the outfit was.<\/p>\n
