Republican Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio has demanded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the members of the January 6 Commission, which was previously led by Democrats and looked into the events at the US Capitol in 2021, be looked into.<\/p>\n
Jordan quickly stated that the investigation was merely a witch hunt to target then-candidate Donald Trump in a brief interview with CNN reporter Manu Raju. Additionally, he stated that the Commission ought to look into Pelosi\u2019s knowledge of the events of January 6.<\/p>\n

RAJU: \u201cWhat are your goals for the Republican side of this investigation, Mr. Jordan?\u201d<\/p>\n
JORDAN: \u201cYou understand the purpose of this. You know, this is about targeting President Trump. The Democrats need to talk about this because they don\u2019t want to talk about anything else. The crime that occurs in every major city is something they don\u2019t want to discuss. They are unwilling to discuss the border crisis. They refuse to discuss the cost, which has increased for everything from eggs and milk to lumber, airline tickets, used cars, and more. They must discuss how we will target President Trump a third time because they don\u2019t want to discuss any of that.<\/p>\n
Georgia Republican Representative Barry Loudermilk disclosed that House Speaker Mike Johnson assured him that his inquiry into the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, would be \u201cformalized as a new committee.\u201d<\/p>\n
Republicans, who now control both houses of Congress and the White House, have a larger plan to continue the investigations they began in the previous Congress.<\/p>\n
The specifics of the new committee are still being worked out, according to Loudermilk, but one possibility is to give Johnson more control over the panel\u2019s composition (referred to as a \u201cselect committee\u201d) and operations.<\/p>\n
The creation of a new committee to draw attention to Loudermilk\u2019s work\u2014which included a report that recommended the FBI charge former GOP Representative Liz Cheney\u2014keeps the Republican campaign focused on preventing President Donald Trump from being held accountable for the January 6 violence.<\/p>\n
Loudermilk described the previous January 6 select committee, which Adam Schiff and Liz Cheney assisted in leading, as \u201cso singularly focused that basically Trump created this entire problem.\u201d \u201cWhen, in fact, there were numerous failures at various levels.\u201d<\/p>\n
Johnson has declared in public that the new investigation into January 6 will be \u201cfully funded.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRepublicans intend to use their new majority to continue their previous investigations that remain politically charged, including the broader security response to the Capitol attack and the investigation into the previous January 6 select committee, which included Cheney as vice chair and another Republican member,\u201d CNN reported.<\/p>\n
According to two people familiar with the situation, Republicans reissued subpoenas on Monday regarding two Justice Department tax investigators who worked on the Hunter Biden case and special counsel Robert Hur\u2019s investigation into President Joe Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents, CNN reported. The outlet also stated that those subpoenas would revive previous Congress\u2019s efforts that have been contested in court and not settled for months.<\/p>\n
Sen. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, is thinking of turning down a pardon that former President Joe Biden granted to himself and everyone else who participated in the Congressional investigation into the January 6 riot.<\/p>\n
Schiff discussed possible \u201cblowback\u201d from accepting a pardon in an interview on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet The Press.\u201d This is because he spent years asserting, during President Donald Trump\u2019s first term, that accepting a pardon amounted to a \u201cadmission of guilt.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Joe Biden granted clemency to a few people in a series of last-minute pardons intended to protect allies from possible retaliation by President-elect Donald Trump, but the decision is not without issues for the recipients.<\/p>\n
The limited list of pardonees included Dr. Anthony Fauci and former Wyoming Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, who co-chaired the Jan. 6 Committee. Biden\u2019s aides claim that this action was meant to prevent Trump or his incoming administration from taking revenge.<\/p>\n
The pardons, however, would not release either person from having to testify under oath if they were subpoenaed, legal experts quickly noted.<\/p>\n
Biden\u2019s pardons do not protect Cheney and Fauci from repercussions if they lie under oath, according to federal litigation lawyer Jesse Binnall, should the GOP-controlled Congress subpoena them to testify. He said that anyone hoping to see the two charged could find the pardons to be \u201cgreat news.\u201d<\/p>\n
In fact, the pardons are wonderful news. Before dropping another bombshell, Binnall wrote on X, \u201cNo one who was just pardoned will be able to refuse to testify in a civil, criminal, or congressional proceeding based upon the 5th Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Additionally, let\u2019s be practical.
